Officially Underway
The field trip is officially underway. Everyone showed up a the department on-time. We loaded our gear and ourselves onto our chartered U-M bus, which meet us conveniently at the C.C. Little bus stop. Now we off to Detroit Metro Airport!
Field trips are a critical and integral component of geoscience education. They provide students with unequaled opportunities for exploring and understanding geological principles first-hand, outside of the classroom, at real-world scales.
Such trips, however, are expensive endeavors. While students themselves bare a portion of the costs, we rely on grants and donations to cover the majority of the trip's costs. This helps to ensure an affordable experience open all students.
This year's field trip is supported by generous contributions from:
- An anonymous donor
- Department of Earth and Environmental Science Field Trip Excursion Fund (initially funded by an anonymous donation)
- University of Michigan International Institute
- Dpto. Estratigrafia, Fac CC Geologicas, Universidad Complutense de Madrid
- Shell
- BP
If you are interested in helping to support future field trips, please visit the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences' Giving Opportunities page for more information.
Special thanks go toDra. Maribel Benito, trip co-leader, whose continued efforts and intellectual contributions are helping to ensure the scope and high quality of this year's field experience.
